Vulture Waiting For This Kid To Die: Photo will break your heart

vulture-child

I very rarely put photos up that bring tears to my eyes. But the minute that I saw this one, I cried. In this world that has abundance on so many levels, how can this child be in such a bad way? When I chose to put this picture on my site today, I chose so to remind you:

  1. If you are not starving right now then you are blessed.
  2. If you have shelter right now then you are blessed.
  3. If you are able to take care of your kids then you are blessed.
  4. If you have people who love you and are protecting you, then you are blessed.

Over the past several days, television pundits have often blamed the Haitian people for the devastation that has befallen their country. Ignorance shines brightly when bias, bigotry, and racism are in control. Haitian people are not at fault for the earthquake, no more than the people of New Orleans were at fault for Katrina, no more than this child is to blame for his hunger.

We spend far too much time blaming and not enough time solving. As much food as I personally throw away, it breaks my heart to see a child starving anywhere. American society is a FAT society. FAT. If the picture of that child doesn’t motivate you to skip a meal today, I wonder where your heart is. Donate to causes that provide food to the world’s poor–no matter their color, their country, or their religion.

I wanna thank a loyal reader, Brother Akil, for always knowing what to put in my inbox to wake me up. He brought the tears this morning and so, I thank him.

Peace….

The problem with being a photographer is being able to be somewhat cold hearted. Think…if he never took this picture, would awareness still been raised to what was happening, no it wouldnt. Yes, that child probably died and its a great tradgedy, but think off all the lives Kevin saved by taking this picture. And, i think its pretty clear that he felt remorse for not helping that child.

Dont be so quick to judge his joice.
