Day 26 of 70: Lifestyle Change – Play before Work? Absolutely.

I’ve decided that before I start my writing or editing projects, I’ve decided to get my play in for the day. That’s right. I’m playing before I’m working.  I go outside and play tennis for a while or I’ll ride my bike. Sometimes I’ll even go for a jog or a power-walk. Next week, I’ll probably add rollerskating to the mix. I might get up earlier in order to make play the first part of my day but I realized something when I started playing first.

Here’s my breakthrough of the day:

When I get my joy, my laughter, or my fun in first thing in the morning, I’m more creative. My thoughts flow easier and I’m able to solve issues faster. Sound crazy? You bet. But, its the truth. Also, once I’ve played some, work feels that less stressful. Playing in the morning makes work in the afternoon feel like fun… And it is. I don’t look at exercise as exercise. I do exercise that I actually like doing that way I’ll never dread it. The other bonus breakthrough for today? After 30 minutes of fun, I usually have some kind of eureka moment. I declare I’ve had a bunch this week. But the catch is: I have to be sweating for at least 30 minutes in order for eureka to happen.

Try it on for size. See if you start doing something fun and active for 30 minutes before you start working if you don’t have a eureka moment! I dare you. And when it works, email me and tell me about it.
