Lifestyle Change: Day 63 of 70 – Leave No Stone Unturned

FACEBOOK

I was recently speaking with a college student about my audience reach on Facebook. He looked at my facebook profile and said under no uncertain terms, “You need more friends.” My numbers were somewhere around 1,400 and he said, “I needed more friends.” I thought to myself, “Who is this lil college student think he’s talking to?” Then he said something else that I knew in my gut to be true: “If you are marketing on the internet, you can only expect a 10% return so in order to get 500 responses, you need 5,000 friends on facebook.” I found myself saying under my breath, “I need more friends.” So, here’s my breakthrough of the day:

I listen to advice from all who will give it–young people, old people, educated and uneducated. I stay away from the emotionally unstable as well as the mentally ill because I know that real help is needed–but even in those cases a real useful nugget may come forth. When a college student could tell me in less than 60 seconds what I needed for my business, I knew in my heart that I wasn’t conquering social media the way that I should. I was relying on the old way of doing things, and I needed to step it up. I utilized his words as motivation to make me leave no stone unturned. Since talking to this young man, I’ve started a daily facebook marketing campaign. See where the Yasmin Shiraz page is on July 27, 2010. I bet it isn’t at 1,400 friends.

A wise man listens when good advice is being given no matter who is giving it. Are you wise? In which ways in your life should you be leaving no stone unturned?
