As a filmmaker who worked most within the documentary genre, I decided to shoot They Call Me Dae to get the experience working with actors and within the narrative format. The trailer for They Call Me Dae has some of the best comments and it let me know that people are ready for a film like Retaliation.
We held two Dinner & A Movie events for They Call Me Dae… Here was the press release for it…
New York, NY (May 26, 2011) — Still Eye Rise Films will be screening the short film, They Call Me Dae, written and directed by Yasmin Shiraz, to bring awareness of teen bullies and raise funds for an upcoming feature film. Shiraz, an award winning writer/director and author, along with the cast, will be on hand to discuss the film, teen bullying and independent filmmaking.
The screening will be hosted by Big Ced of Industry Co-Sign and will be held at Negril Village Restaurant- 70 W. 3rd Street on Thursday, June 9th from 6:30-11p. The film screening starts at 9pm. There is no cover charge at the door, but there will be food and drinks available for purchase.
About the Film
They Call Me Dae features a teen girl who brags about being a teen bully. When we take an intimate look into her life, we wonder if she is angry to be hateful or is her anger is coming from home. The film stars Naza Usher as Dae. The talented cast includes Cynthia McCright, Princess K. Harris, Krystal Farris, Kaseem Bristow, Dahianna Torres, Steve Blast, and Richard Perez.
